Passively aerated static pile composting is proving to be a good method for managing livestock mortalities, butcher waste, and road kill. It is simple, takes less time than dragging a carcass out back, uses basic farm equipment, and is cost-effective. This method helps protect ground and surface water by reducing pathogens in properly managed piles.
Instructor: Jean Bonhotal is Waste Management Specialist and Director of the Cornell Waste Management Institute in Soil and Crop Sciences. Jean has spent over 25 years in the education of composting food, manure, animal carcasses, and compost quality/use.
