We are looking for a Local Food Educator who will deliver educational programming to adults and youth in the areas of local foods and agriculture under the supervision of the Community Vitality Senior Team Leader. This position will be responsible for leading local agriculture and farm-to-school programming and activities for youth and their families during the school year and through farmers’ market educational outreach during the summer months. The Local Food Educator will provide an educational curriculum for foods being served in school meal programs. This position will also lead the summer Power of Produce (POP) Club using an established curriculum and assist with the development of local food guides and calendars, public outreach, and communications, and will oversee volunteers in the program.

This position will serve as the educator for the Power of Produce (POP) Club farmers’ market program, working directly with over 300 kids at summer farmers’ markets in the Adirondack region. This position will implement a menu of existing POP Club and local foods curricula through activities such as one-on-one teaching, group classes, and workshops, and will cover topics including but not limited to nutrition, pollination, and composting.

The work of a 4-H Program Educator includes a wide range of programming opportunities with 4-H youth, clubs, and volunteers as well as in-school and after-school programming.
This position will serve as the 4-H Program Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Essex County and will deliver already-existing educational programming to youth within the 4-H Youth Development program and direct 4-H volunteer efforts. This position is under the leadership and oversight of the Community Vitality Program Senior Team Leader. This position will work closely with the Community Vitality Program Team to expand program areas to include, but not limited to: animal husbandry & show presence, Agriculture in the Classroom, shooting sports, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, agriculture, and math), and youth wellness programs. Program delivery will occur during regular office hours, evenings, weekends, and after-school and summer programs. This position will include, but not be limited to: utilizing existing volunteer programming resources to recruit new 4-H volunteers; providing orientation and training of 4-H volunteers; and providing ongoing follow-up to volunteers that ensures initial and continued 4-H club and program success.

This position will serve as the Agriculture and Local Food Team Leader for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Essex County and will provide leadership and management in program development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative education programs in Agriculture and Local Food. This position will work directly with farmers, farmland owners, and food producers to develop strong relationships within the agricultural community as well as within the Association by working closely with the Association Executive Director. This position will collaborate with the Association Community Vitality Team Leader to fulfill agriculture, local food, and workforce development programming. This position will implement the Essex County Farmland Protection and Food System Plan and work closely with the Adirondack Harvest program. This position is responsible for administrative and programmatic supervision of staff, budget development, and effective management of resources.

The Willsboro Research Farm encompasses 352 acres, with an additional 40 acres of research fields at the Miner Institute in Chazy, NY. Research projects are diverse and include breeding, horticulture, and crop and soil science research on small grains, corn, biofuel grasses, grapes, high tunnel production, and much more. The farm is managed by Cornell University Agriculture Experiment Station (CUAES) as a site for interdisciplinary applied research. All positions cooperatively support agricultural research, teaching, and extension projects in accordance with the Land Grant Mission.
