POWER OF PRODUCE (POP) CLUB EDUCATOR:

This position will serve as the educator for the Power of Produce (POP) Club farmers’ market program, working directly with over 300 kids at summer farmers’ markets in the Adirondack region. This position will implement a menu of existing POP Club and local foods curricula through activities such as one-on-one teaching, group classes, and workshops, and will cover topics including but not limited to nutrition, pollination, and composting.

This is a temporary full-time non-exempt position - 100% FTE, 37.5 hours per week. Position duration spans 13 to 14 weeks, from late May until early September. The hourly rate is $18.35/hour. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, including health and dental insurance and retirement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or Equivalent Education (GED/High School Diploma and one (1) year transferrable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which will include early mornings, evenings and weekends, as dictated by farmers’ market days and hours.

Public Health Fellow I (Program and Organizational Management, Nutrition and Food Security)

The Cornell Cooperative Extension EssexPublic Health Fellow will work in Program and Organizational Management, focusing on nutrition and food security. The fellow will:

  • Utilize program resources and materials to develop and distribute educational materials that link public health outcomes with local, healthy food.
  • Teach existing educational programs as defined.
  • Work to foster acceptance of community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.
  • Under the direction and oversight of the Program Team Leaders, apply subject matter knowledge to create and deliver lesson plans. Delivery methods include, but are not limited to, one-on-one teaching, group classes, and workshops.
  • Assist community members in enrolling in public programs that enable them to access and purchase local food.
  • Assist in providing educational programs via mass media.
  • Adapt in-person programming to virtual settings.
  • Assist in enrolling eligible residents in SNAP.
  • Advise food pantries who want to incorporate local food for recipients.
  • Contribute to data resources about food access and local food providers (see https://ahihealth.org/healthyadk/)
  • Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and Program staff to achieve Association program delivery goals.
